Our next General Membership Meeting will be held on March 16th at 9:30 am at the Glen Cannon Country Club.  The expanded tax credit will be the topic of the round table discussion that will take up the speaker portion of our meeting.  Please see the information below regarding this important tax incentive.  To RSVP for this important meeting, click here. Many of you have used the EventBrite website to pay your bills here at the Board Office.  We are now using the EventBrite site to collect RSVP's for our meetings.  No charge, no need to enter credit card information.  Simply click on the above link, click the orange register button, enter your name and email address.  It should be very easy, but if you have any problems, please email Amy or Nancy and we will be glad to help you.

Tell Clients, Community:  First-time Homebuyer Tax Credit

Set to Expire April 30, 2010

April 30, 2010, is an important date to remember for potential homebuyers in our community. That’s the deadline for taking advantage of an $8,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers. Current homeowners who are selling a home that they have occupied for five consecutive years within the last eight can receive a credit of up to $6,500 for homes purchased between Nov. 7, 2009 and April 30, 2010.

Our local REALTORS® association, along with the NC Association of REALTORS® and National Association of REALTORS®, believe it’s part of our job and responsibility to let clients, potential clients and the community know about this unprecedented tax credit. We hope local firms and individual REALTORS® also will take up the charge of reminding people about this tax credit.

When the tax credit was initially extended and expanded, it was hot news for the media. The hype has since quieted, but there needs to be a sense of urgency because the deadline is quickly approaching.

We can get the word out through our local news media, newsletters to clients, appearances at local civic clubs and any contacts with community leaders.

As REALTORS® in our community, you are able to answer questions about the tax credit and provide other assistance for people taking the exciting first step toward buying a home. Let’s provide clients with the information that they need to get off the fence and take advantage of this valuable tax credit.
